      What are the Sportsperson Visa UK requirements ?

      The Sportsperson Visa falls under the UK’s points-based immigration system. A score of minimum 70 points is required for the applicant to be an eligible candidate.

      A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) will grant you with a 50 points score, as it proves to the Home Office the fact that a job has been offered to you in the UK. Then evidences that support your role in the field of sports will result in outstanding achievement should be proven and that you are:

      • An elite sportsperson or an acknowledged coach 

      • A professional at the highest level of your field, internationally recognised by your sports’ governing body

      Your sports governing body should grant you endorsement, and a Certificate of Sponsorship for which they should possess a sponsor licence for overseas workers employment.

      The English language fulfilment will provide you with a further 10 points score. The English language requirements for a sportsperson applicant will be different than that for the work visa applicants. By passing level A1, the sportsperson will be eligible for the visa rather than having to pass an accredited English test at CEFR level B1.

      The maintenance requirements will cover the remaining 10 points. You need to prove that a minimum of £1,270 has remained in your bank account for a constant period of at least 28 days within 31 days for your visa application. This demonstrates that you can financially support yourself in the UK.

      What can I do whilst in the UK on a Sportsperson Visa ?

      The chief permission granted to you by the Sportsperson Visa is that it permits you to work in the UK, the job that has been described on your Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). Other things that can be done under this visa are:

      • Under certain situations, get employed on a second job
      • Play in the UK for your national team
      • Work as a sports announcer
      • Get engaged in voluntary work 
      • Study, considering that it does not obstruct your job on the CoS
      • Travel abroad and return to the UK

      You can also bring your family members to the UK under this visa. Your partner and children if eligible are the dependents who can be brought along.

      Yes, if you already meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply to extend your Sportsperson Visa. With the governing body of your sport, as well as a new Certificate of Sponsorship, you will need to renew your endorsement. If you want to renew your visa, you must do so before the new one expires. You will be able to work in the UK for another three years and fourteen days, if your application is approved.
